A Man Full of Trouble is Philadelphia’s only surviving pre-Revolutionary War tavern. Constructed in 1759 on the north side of Little Dock Creek near 2nd and Spruce Streets, it is also one of the city’s oldest buildings. According to the earliest history of Philadelphia, the tavern’s original name was “A Man Loaded with Mischief,” after a notorious English pub.
